Songs of Thanksgiving Please the Lord Greatly
“I will praise the name of God with a song, and shall magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that has horns and hooves.” Psalm 69:30-31
Reading the Old Testament, it’s easy to think that an animal sacrifice is the ultimate way to please God. It was an act of worship that was big, expensive, “sacrificial,” public, scriptural, and obedient. Yet it was only intended as a picture of deeper truths. It was a picture of Christ’s great sacrifice. It is also a picture of our sacrificing our lives for Him.
When we make music from a thankful, joyful heart, God knows He has our souls. We could never repay the Lord for all that He has done for us, and for all that He is. He doesn’t expect us to. But He is very pleased when we make music in our heart and magnify Him in song.
As we remember anew all that Christ is, let us lift our very souls to Him in melody and glorify Him before the church and the world.
